If Smog Repairs Cost More Than $750 To Pass is There a Waiver?
Does Caalifornia have a law where if you can't fix a car for less than $750 they will give a waiver? I really need my car for work, but it won't pass smog and I can't afford to fix it because the smog station says the repairs are something like close to $800 bucks. I heard from a friend that if repairs are expensive there is a program that will give me a waiver. Is this true? Answer:
It's true, you may be eligible to register your vehicle without a smog certificate. Eligible low income vehicle owners may receive a one time two year extension to complete necessary emissions related repairs BUT there are strict requirements. Please follow the link below to learn more about the Smog Check Hardship Repair Cost Waiver program. The waiver does require that you have spent at least $650 in repairs and the vehicle still not pass. The money spent could have been personal or thorough the State Smog Check CAP program.
