Passing CA Smog Check 2001 Toyota Tacoma V6 from MO

I am in the process of buying a 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 4.2 Liter V6 w/automatic transmission. From a private party located in Missouri. However I not if it is a problem to smog. I currently reside near Redding CA. The Tacoma is from Farmington, Missouri. Thank you.
Answer:

You should not have any trouble getting an out of state 2001 Toyota Tacoma to pass the smog check in California. Used vehicles can pass the CA smog test and are allowed California registration if there emission systems are functioning properly, not tampered with, and the vehicle's check engine light is not illuminated (including emission monitors in READY status). Assuming this Toyota Tacoma has been fairly well maintained, it should have no trouble passing the California emissions inspection. The inspection will consist of a visual test and OBD II systems test. Since the truck is a 2000 model or newer it will not need to be driven on a dynamometer during the inspection. The technician will simple inspect under the hood, attached the DAD OIS (smog machine) to the Tacoma, and read the emission computer data. As mentioned above, the one important thing to make sure is that the Check Engine Light (CEL) is not illuminated while the engine is running. The CEL must only turn on while the ignition is on. Once the engine starts, the CEL must turn off.
