Gifted Out of State Jeep CJ5 Needs CA Smog Test?

My brother gave me a Jeep CJ-5. The Jeep is from out of state. Does it need a California smog check in order to be registered here?
Answer:

Yes, your Jeep will need a smog check from a licensed CA smog check station, as well as a VIN verification. The VIN verification can be obtained by making an appointment with the California Highway Patrol. They have substations at local DMV field offices and will be able to inspect the vehicle on the same day which you plan on transferring the out of state title to California and in your name. You can get a smog check before your DMV visit so that you have everything you need when you arrive at the DMV office. posted by SmogTips Support
